During the discussion with the concept director, the chosen concept location is at a jungle. It is amazing that the location he chose is in Ipoh, yet the results of the shoot seems so dreamy and fantasy like . The couple brought their own candles and tent. There are also white lamps to hold the candles within. Wicker baskets, white on white props and flowers are the decoration for the day shoot in the jungle.
Felicia looks lovely in her white gown. A white pearl necklace is the statement piece to compliment her slender neck. Ken looks dapper throughout the shoot. He is the knight to Felicia the fairy princess. The candles at the jungle are unlit during the day shoot because it’s too bright. So they ended up as props. We bought the swing and light bulbs a week earlier, and surveyed the place to find a suitable tree to put the swing and light bulbs on at the garden. The tree has to be sturdy to ensure the couple’s safety. The survey was done in the day, but we are unsure how it will be like at night.
The concept director specifically bought a generator for the light bulbs but it can’t be sent over in time. Luckily, I am able to borrow one from my friend instead. When the generator is activated, everyone held their breaths as the light bulbs twinkled on, looking like fairy lights. There is a sense of accomplishment while looking on at the fairy tale like setting. Behind the scenes when preparing for the swing and light bulbs, The concept director couldn’t guarantee the couple that this idea would work. However through his dedication along with our fellow photographers, we made this concept into a reality.
On that day, I went to the jungle half an hour earlier. I met another couple from another studio who are there for their shoot. The other photographer commented that I managed to bag the perfect spot for the photo shoot. The other couple use the same setting but with a smaller tent. They are behind Ken and Felicia, so I adjusted my photo taking angles to avoid having the other couple in the picture.
The unused candles from the day shoot are saved for the night shoot but the lighter is forgotten. A kind passer-by borrowed a lighter. The lighted candles are placed on the ground as props. Felicia truly looks like a fairy princess in her white gown and a flower crown atop her wavy hair. She perched on the swing, guarded by Ken, her knight in shining armour. The couple even brought sparklers to play with.
The photographer captured the moments they play with the sparklers. The couple are satisfied with the outcome and say that the studio’s hard work exceeded their expectations.
From my interaction with the couple, I find Felicia to be open and friendly, always with a smile on her face. Ken is shyer but in the end, they interact well and are a natural at candid shots. Even though this photo shoot exceeded my work time, I am happy to help capture the couple’s magical moments.
